In the Visible Money system, it is possible to operate under four types of transparency. The level of transparency is chosen by the user during the registration process but can be changed later at any time.

  1. No Transparency means that the user does not wish to have their data, even if any is uploaded into the system, made available for public audit.

2. Public Auditor means that the user delegates the ability to audit their data to a trusted third party, which will have access to perform audits on their behalf. When a request for audit is made, it is forwarded to this delegated person. It is then their responsibility to respond to the request and check the audited person’s data based on the auditor’s inquiry. This is suitable, for example, for politicians who do not want their asset data to be publicly available at all times but also do not want to manually approve every single audit request.

3. Transparency on Request means that every audit request will notify the data owner — for example, a politician — that someone wishes to audit them. Each such request must be explicitly approved before the auditor can access the data.

4. Full Transparency means that any verified user of the system can view the data of a person who has set this level.

For all transparency levels, every access to data is logged in the system with detailed information about who viewed what data and when.

The transparency level can later be changed in the application under the section My Data / Transparency Settings.

The system will later include the option to allow access to one’s data only to individuals who have verified their identity using an ID document — for example, a national ID card. This will ensure the guaranteed identity of data auditors.
